A new initiative aimed at transforming innovative scientific concepts into viable business ventures is taking a critical step forward, as the University of Calabria prepares to host a team building workshop for participants of the Biotech Venture Pathway project.
The workshop, scheduled for Wednesday, 10th December 2025, seeks to solidify the entrepreneurial potential of the ideas developed during the training programme by creating focused teams ready for intensive mentoring.
Focus on Foundational Success
The half-day event, running from 10:00 to 13:00 CET, is structured around the core principle that effective team construction is a major determinant of success in the startup ecosystem. Its primary goal is to support participants in forming groups that will enter a dedicated mentoring and support programme—also promoted by the University of Calabria—as they prepare their concepts for the crucial proof-of-concept stage.
The workshop represents the second key activity for the participants, following an earlier session where they engaged with industry experts to understand current research directions and the verticalisation of the biotechnology market.
Agenda Highlights
The session will commence with a presentation by Sebastiano Massaro, Senior Lecturer of Organisational Neuroscience at the Surrey Business School. His introductory hour, titled ‘What is team building? Presentation and organisation of work’, is intended to provide a foundational understanding of team dynamics necessary for venture creation.
This will be followed by an open session at 11:00, allowing participants to present their business ideas and engage in discussion to facilitate the formation of cohesive teams around the most promising concepts.
Project Context
This activity forms part of Work Package 4 (WP4) of the broader European Biotech Venture Pathway project. The overarching objective of this work package is to provide the necessary support for participants to successfully transition their innovative ideas into sustainable startups.
The expected outcome of the workshop is the formal creation of teams and the associated list of ideas that will proceed into the next phases of development and support. The meeting will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams.
The event is scheduled for 10th December 2025, 10:00 – 13:00 CET, and is proposed by the partner University of Calabria.
