Biotech Project Takes Training to Canary Islands Campuses

11/11/2025

The Biotech Venture Pathway Project concluded a targeted engagement campaign at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) this week, connecting directly with over 500 students to boost participation in its entrepreneurship training.

The project partners, Consulta Europa (CE) and Science Innovation Link Office (SILO), were on campus from 4 to 6 November as part of a strategic communication effort to encourage immediate enrolment in the free, flexible programme.

Direct Engagement Drives Enrolment

The partners executed a series of in-person activities across key faculties, including Marine Sciences, Veterinary, and Health Sciences. This approach allowed the team to deliver the programme’s core message directly to the target student community.

“We met students where they are—in cafeterias, hallways, and classrooms. This direct interaction was vital for explaining the program’s benefits and dismantling any perceived barriers to entry,” stated Víctor R. Martínez, representative from CE.

The campaign involved:

  • Classroom Interventions: Short, high-impact presentations delivered by SILO during scheduled classes.
  • Targeted Stands: Informational booths positioned in high-traffic zones, allowing CE to distribute detailed informative material and manage one-on-one sign-ups.

The 40-Hour Advantage

A key element of the promotion focused on the manageable commitment required. Students were informed that the entire training—covering essential skills like IP strategy and venture creation—can be completed with just 40 hours of dedicated study.

This low-commitment pitch, combined with the assurance that the full training must be completed before the end of December this year, was strongly received by the ULPGC community.

Building Regional Capacity

This promotional effort supports the project’s goal of building a robust biotech innovation ecosystem in peripheral regions. By securing registrations and increasing engagement now, the project ensures a strong cohort of trained professionals ready to translate academic research into viable commercial ventures.
